I was drafted into the army in August of 1969. Went to Fort Polk, LA for Basic Training and Advanced Infantry Training. Got orders for Vietnam and was assigned to the 3/5 Cav of the 9th Infantry Division at Dong Ha Combat Base 10 miles for the Demilitarized Zone. Returned to the states just after Christmas of 1970 and was assigned to Fort Ord, CA. Got an early out of the army to attend Summer School at Iowa State University in May of 1971.
I was drafted on July 2, 1969, and was sent to Fort Polk, LA for basic training. After basic training I was assigned to the 9th Data Processing Unit, located at ENT Air Force Base in Colorado Springs, CO as a computer specialist. After spending 5 months in Colorado, I was shipped out to Thailand. I was stationed at Camp Samaesan, near the Utapao Air Force Base, on the north shore of the Gulf of Thailand (Gulf of Siam at the time). I was assigned to the HHC-US Army Support Thailand. My career ended on February 11, 1971, when I was discharged after arrival at the Oakland Processing Center.

I was drafted into the Army in September 1967 and was sent to basic training at Fort Leonard Wood, MO. After basic training, I completed Advanced Infantry Training at Fort Polk, LA. In March 1968, I arrived in Vietnam as an infantry rifleman. Later was an m60 machine gunner, point man, patrol leader, then radio man for platoon leader. C Company, 1st battalion, 2nd brigade (black scarf battalion), 1st Infantry Division (Big Red One). November 14th, got second Purple Heart, spent 2 weeks in intensive care at Army Hospital in Long Binh, Vietnam and 2 weeks in U.S. Army Hospital in Yokohama, Japan. December 1968 to June 1969 at U.S. Military Hospital at Scott Air Force Base in southern Illinois. Discharged June 27th, 1969.

I signed up for the draft after high school in 1958 and joined the Navy the next day. Completed a 30 year career being promoted to a Master Chief (E-9) after 19 years. Served in many commands in administrative positions. Tours in Washington DC (3 times); Edzell, Scotland; 1st Naval District Boston; Reserve Center Boise, Idaho; NSA Frankfurt, Germany; NCS Norfolk, VA; USS Jamestown; USS Oxford; USS Belmont; Vietnam (South Area); NCS Adak, Alaska; NCTC Pensacola, FL; NAS Jacdsonville, FL (Courier) and final tour was in Bureau of Naval Personnel Washington, DC, that tour was 4 years as Office Manager for my Rating in Navy which controlled assignments for 16,000 Navy Personnel. Selected and served last 2 years to managed the office of Washington Assignments, screening for Senior Enlisted Academy and SGT. MAG. Academy; recruiting and boot camp assignments. Still miss it.

I was enlisted in the Army on August 26, 1968. I was sent to basic training at Fort Polk, LA. I was transferred to Fort Leonard Wood, MO for AIT, for training as a forklift and loader operator. I served in Vietnam from February 13, 1969 to September 11, 1970. I return to Fort Hood, TX where I was honorably discharged on September 9, 1971.
